Intra-Regional Distribution Model for Infrastructures, Activities and Journeys (MIRIAD-PRALIA)

Project:

The CATT is leading discussions on the prospective assessments of major transportation infrastructures, and their impact on territorial planning and organization, from a sustainable development standpoint. The MIRIAD project is a joint initiative by the University of Pau and the Adour Region, and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departmental Council, and focuses on the development of a decision-making tool based on an intra-regional distribution model for infrastructures, activities and journeys.

The MIRIAD program intends to create a computable general equilibrium model that can simulate long-term interactions among the development of activities in a given territory (choice of location), the transportation system and journeys on the network made by agents. From an operational perspective, MIRIAD will contribute to generating results on the development of the territory (road traffic, real estate prices, population distribution, company movements, pollution and other external factors, tax potential, etc.), designed to help public players concerned by territorial planning and layout, make informed decisions. The results of simulations run using MIRIAD concern the installation, move or modification of identified elements in the road network or economic activities. MIRIAD will therefore help make a more accurate assessment of the socio-economic opportunity cost of the different projects under study. This program is a natural continuation of extensive work in the fields of geographical economics, transportation economics and environmental economics, which have helped improve our understanding of journey and localization behaviors of economic agents in a territory which itself is subject to exogenous modifications (new infrastructures, new regulatory constraints, etc.).
